By far, the most common way that Waterloo students get experience is through co-operative education or “co-op". In co-op you get to try up to six different jobs, gain up to two years of paid work experience, and build a network of professional connections. Waterloo students have the potential to earn between $9,000 to $16,000 per term on a first work term, with the opportunity to earn more each term as they gain experience. In the first six months after graduation, co-op grads are way ahead of the competition. They typically have higher employment rates AND wages. in total co-op earnings over five to six co-op terms.

Bursaries and government loans are typically available only to students who are Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents and eligible for the Ontario Student Assistant Program (OSAP).
